Our own consumer product: bazi charting. The almanac rules are written as code — solar terms, stems and branches, the luck pillars — and the model only reads the chart it is given. A model that does the arithmetic gets it wrong in a way nobody catches.
What we did for MingShu
The engine and the reading are separate layers, so the part that must be exactly right is testable and the part that must read well is replaceable.
Delivery went from 78–90 seconds to 30.7. The fix was not parallelising the generation — it was moving generation to the moment the form is filled in, before the button is pressed.
Delivery does not depend on a cron. The alarm on a Durable Object carries the work past the 30-second ceiling, and the draft lives in the object rather than in eventually-consistent storage.
A PDF that fails to render does not hold up delivery — the reading goes out first.
576 pages built for search; on 2026-08-18 a per-URL check found 99.1% of them indexed.
What keeps it from breaking quietly
The heartbeat fires even on a day with no orders. A guard that only speaks when it has something to report cannot be told apart from a guard that has died.
When delivery is slow it says so and keeps going, instead of stopping to look fast.
